Types of Coverage:

Automobile

An auto insurance policy primarily consists of two parts: Liability and Physical Damage Coverage. Liability pays for repairs, medical costs for injuries of others and other expenses like legal fees, if you are found at-fault in an accident. Physical Damage Coverage pays to repair or replace your vehicle should it suffer damage from various situations.

Liability Coverages

Liability
Automobile Liability Coverage pays bodily injury and property damage claims for others for which you are responsible and may pay your defense and court costs if sued. Bodily Injury Liability Coverage may cover medical expenses, pain and suffering, and lost wages of the injured party while Property Damage Liability Coverage may cover the damage to property and loss of its use.

When selecting automobile liability limits, consider the rising cost of medical and emergency services and the potential loss of income or wages for which you may be responsible. It only takes one significant liability event to impact your financial stability. If your coverage limits are insufficient, you may have to pay out of pocket or have judgements attached to your future earnings.

A Personal Liability Umbrella policy may be necessary to cover large liability losses.

Uninsured / Underinsured Motorist
Automobile Liability Coverage is required in North Carolina; however, some drivers fail to carry insurance, or the coverage they carry may not be sufficient. This is where Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Coverages can help protect your assets.

Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Coverages help pay for damages caused by a driver who does not have any coverage or does not have enough coverage. In general, it provides what you may have received from the other person’s insurance company, if that person had insurance. These limits are typically the same as your liability limits.

Medical Payments
Medical Payments Coverage pays for reasonable and necessary medical care for the driver and passengers of the insured vehicle as a result of a covered claim, regardless of fault. There are no deductibles or copays, so this coverage can pay from the first dollar of covered expenses incurred.

Physical Damage Coverages

Comprehensive
Comprehensive Coverage is an optional coverage that pays for damage to your insured vehicle caused by something other than a collision. Comprehensive Coverage is subject to a deductible and typically covers losses such as the following:

  • Theft
  • Vandalism
  • Hitting an animal
  • Glass breakage
  • Falling objects
  • Wind
  • Hail
  • Fire
  • Flood
Collision
Collision Coverage is an optional coverage that pays for damage to your insured vehicle caused by a vehicle rollover or when colliding with another vehicle or object, other than an animal. Collision Coverage is subject to a deductible.

Extended Transportation Expense
With Extended Transportation Expense Coverage, you can be reimbursed for the costs of renting a car while your vehicle is being repaired due to a covered claim. Daily allowances or limits may vary.

Towing and Labor
With Towing and Labor Coverage you can be reimbursed up to $100 per disablement for towing and labor costs incurred for the following:

  • Mechanical breakdown
  • Vehicle lockout services (e.g., keys lost, broken, locked in car)
  • Towing your inoperable vehicle to the nearest place where repairs can be made
  • Delivery of gas, oil, or a loaned battery

Homeowners

Homeowners insurance pays for unexpected losses to your home and personal belongings from specified perils such as fire, windstorm, hail and theft. Optional endorsements can be added to your policy to broaden your protection.

Homeowners Coverage

Dwelling
Dwelling Coverage provides protection for your house and other attached structures. If your home were to be damaged or destroyed due to a covered peril, your Dwelling Coverage will be used to rebuild your home the way it was prior to being damaged.

Other Structures
Other Structures Coverage provides protection for structures on your property that are not attached to your home, such as detached garages, gazebos, and tool sheds. This coverage is typically 10% of your Dwelling Coverage amount (e.g. if your Dwelling Coverage is $300,000, your limit for Other Structures will be $30,000).

Personal Property
Personal Property Coverage provides protection for your personal belongings like clothing, furniture, silverware, pots and pans, books, toys, and electronics. AAA Insurance offers a Replacement Cost on Contents endorsement for personal property that is equal to 70% of the Dwelling Coverage (e.g. if your Dwelling Coverage is $300,000 your limit for Personal Property will be $210,000). Through this endorsement, your belongings will be valued at the cost to replace the item without considering depreciation. Certain items that appreciate in value like jewelry, fine arts, and stamp or coin collections are subject to coverage limitations and may require special policy endorsements to be fully protected.

Loss of Use
Loss of Use Coverage will help pay for your additional living expenses resulting from a covered claim. For example, if you are unable to live in your home while repairs are completed due to a house fire, the Loss of Use Coverage could pay for a hotel, meals out at restaurants, temporary warehouse storage, and any other inconveniences that are outside of your customary routine because of the loss. Generally, your Loss of Use Coverage will be 20% of your Dwelling Coverage amount (e.g. if your Dwelling Coverage is $300,000, your limit for Loss of Use will be $60,000).

Personal Liability
Personal Liability Coverage is provided in the event you or a household member is legally responsible for injury to others. For example, an injury occurring on your property or an incident with a pet.

When selecting your liability limit, consider the rising cost of medical and emergency services and the potential loss of income or wages that you may be responsible for. It only takes one significant liability event to impact your financial stability. If your coverage limits are insufficient, you may have to pay out of pocket or have judgments attached to your future earnings.

A Personal Liability Umbrella policy may be necessary to cover large liability losses.

Medical Payments
Medical Payments provide a set amount of coverage to help pay for medical expenses to others that are injured on your property. This coverage does not apply to the injuries sustained by you or members of your household on your property. Some exclusions apply.

Optional Homeowners Endorsements

Inland Flood Coverage
In North Carolina, the threat of costly flood damage is growing with changing weather patterns causing more severe and frequent rainstorms. Rapid and prolonged rainfall from storms and hurricanes increases the probability of flooding and can have a statewide impact. Snowstorms with significant snowmelt are also an issue. Even if you live in a low to moderate flood risk area, you may be at risk.

Inland Flood Coverage is an innovative solution to protect you from the most common flood exposures. It even includes loss of use coverage and protection for your personal property located in a basement, which are typically excluded by flood coverage through the National Flood Insurance Program.

AAA Inland Flood coverage provides coverage for the following:

  • Your residence and certain other structures (e.g., shed, pool house, etc.)
  • Personal property, including in a basement or sunken room
  • Loss of use due to flood
  • Property moved to safety by the insured
  • Debris removal
Home Systems Protection
To keep your home comfortable and secure, you may rely on numerous home systems like heating and air conditioning units, electric service panels, hot water heaters or electric garage doors. These systems and appliances often use complex internal mechanisms and sensitive technology and could cost thousands of dollars to repair or replace if they unexpectedly breakdown.

With Home Systems Protection, you will have coverage for the repair or replacement of a sudden and accidental breakdown of home equipment, such as motors, pumps, and compressors as well as home system components that control electricity, heating and air conditioning. It can also include personal property like laptops, kitchen and laundry appliances, and smart technology. In the event of a claim, you can pick your own repair contractor.

Service Line Coverage
Consider a leak that occurs in one of your exterior underground water pipes due to tree root invasion. You would be responsible for the repairs out of pocket, which could include expenses for land excavation, repairing or replacing the damaged pipe, landscaping and more.

With Service Line Coverage, you could receive payment for damaged piping, wiring and outdoor property that is your responsibility to repair when caused by a service line failure. A service line is exterior, underground piping and wiring, including permanent connections, valves or attached devices that provide a service to your residence premises and would include the following services:

  • Water supply
  • Waste disposal
  • Electrical power
  • Heating (including hot water, natural gas, propane, steam and geothermal)
  • Communications (including cable and data transmission, Internet access and telecommunications)
  • Drainage systems
  • Compressed air

Personal Liability Umbrella

A major liability event, like an at-fault car accident or a houseguest getting injured, could happen at any time and can have serious repercussions on your financial well-being. If you are held liable and your coverage limits are insufficient, you may have to pay out of pocket or have judgements attached to your future earnings.

A Personal Liability Umbrella provides liability coverage in addition to your automobile and homeowners liability limits, giving you the peace of mind that your current and future assets are protected.

Renters

Renters insurance pays for unexpected losses to your personal belongings if they are stolen or damaged by specified perils such as fire, windstorm, or hail. Optional endorsements can be added to your policy to broaden your protection.

Personal Property
Personal Property Coverage provides protection for your personal belongings like clothing, furniture, silverware, pots and pans, books, toys, and electronics. AAA Insurance offers a Replacement Cost on Contents endorsement for personal property which values your belongings at the cost to replace them without considering depreciation. Certain items that appreciate in value like jewelry, fine arts, and stamp or coin collections are subject to coverage limitations and may require special policy endorsements to be fully protected.

Loss of Use
Loss of Use Coverage will help pay for your additional living expenses resulting from a covered claim. For example, if you are unable to live at your residence while repairs are completed due to a fire, the Loss of Use Coverage could pay for a hotel, meals out at restaurants, temporary warehouse storage, and any other inconveniences that are outside of your customary routine because of the loss. Generally, your Loss of Use Coverage will be 20% of your Personal Property Coverage amount (e.g., if your Personal Property Coverage is $25,000, your limit for Loss of Use will be $5,000).

Personal Liability
Personal Liability Coverage is provided in the event you or a household member is legally responsible for injury to others. For example, an injury occurring at the insured location or an incident with a pet.

When selecting your liability limit, consider the rising cost of medical and emergency services and the potential loss of income or wages that you may be responsible for.
