Board of Directors

The Board of Directors is the platform and policy making body of NCPAFCU. 

Meet our board

The Board consists of seven members elected to staggered terms of three years, and appoints all committees and the president. The Board serves without compensation.

Phil Lucey

Phil Lucey (Chair)

Mr. Lucey is the executive director of the North Carolina Press Association. NCPA represents newspapers across the state and has been supporting the public’s right to know and the interests of newspapers since 1873. Lucey joined NCPA in 2016. Prior to NCPA, Lucey was executive director of the New Mexico Press Association from 2010-16 and before that, the advertising director of the New England Newspaper Association from 2004-10. Lucey has been honored to serve on various boards fighting for open government and promoting state professional associations. He is a graduate of the University of Connecticut.

Teri Saylor

Teri Saylor (Board Vice-Chair)

Ms. Saylor has been a member since 1984 and is an account executive with FirstPoint Management Resources in Raleigh. She also provides consultation services along with freelance writing and photography through her firm, Open Water Communications. She grew up in Winston-Salem and is a graduate of NC State University with a Bachelor of Arts in English and Communications. Prior to forming Open Water Communications, she was executive director of the North Carolina Press Association. In her spare time, she enjoys running and cycling. She has completed five marathons.

Keven Zepezauer

Keven Zepezauer (Board Secretary)

Mr. Zepezauer is currently the president and CEO for Restoration NewsMedia LLC, with extensive experience in media. He also serves on the Executive Board for North Carolina Press Association and Eastern North Carolina Press Association. Keven is also an active member of the Wilson Rotary Club and a graduate of NC State University.

Tracy McLamb

Tracy McLamb

Mr. McLamb has worked in the newspaper and media industry since 1992, starting out as a photographer with The Daily Record in Dunn. Over the years, he held a variety of roles at the paper, including deputy managing editor, production manager, and plant manager of Sunbelt Press, its printing division. Today, McLamb is part of the commercial printing and packaging industry where he oversees scheduling and production process flow.

A graduate of Western Carolina University, McLamb also completed Leadership Harnett, attended the North Carolina School of Banking, and participated in the UNC Knight Foundation’s Table Stakes Newsroom Initiative in 2019 and 2020.

Beyond his professional career, he has been active in the community as a leader with the Boy Scouts of America, serving as both committee chair and scoutmaster. He has also served as chairman of the Benson Planning Board, as a board member of Leadership Harnett, and as a member of the Johnston County Blue Ribbon Committee on Growth and Finance. He lives in Benson with his wife, Tracie, and they have two children, Janie Honeycutt and Joey McLamb.

Jim Sills

Jim Sills

Mr. Sills currently serves as vice president of North State Media, LLC and general manager of Duplin Journal in Wallace. Sills has spent his entire publishing career in North Carolina, working for metro and community newspapers in advertising sales, management, and as publisher.

He is a native of Durham and is a graduate of UNC Greensboro. Sills resides in Rose Hill, where he is active in the Duplin County community, serving in his church, Rotary and on various boards. He and his wife, Danielle have two children - Elizabeth, a third-year law school student and James, a college senior.

Cathy Wallace

Cathy Wallace

Mrs. Wallace’s newspaper career began in her hometown of Wilmington. After joining The News & Observer in Raleigh, she held many positions as an advertising sales manager working with tourism, auto, real estate, and regional clients. She also managed digital marketing and local territory reps and was advertising director for many of the company’s community newspapers. Mrs. Wallace has served in leadership roles with many associations including The Newspaper Telemarketing Managers Association (president), The North Carolina Travel Industry Association (president, two years) and on the board of The NC Tourism Coalition. She enjoys all types of music, rustic camping, gardening and most of all being “grandmommy” to three rowdy boys and one precocious girl. She and her husband, Richard, live in Willow Spring with their little rescue chug, Zoey.

Johnny Whitfield

Johnny Whitfield

Mr. Whitfield is retired from the community newspaper field, where he worked for 30 years in various roles including reporter, editor, and publisher in communities including Oxford, Zebulon, Wake Forest, Roxboro, and Siler City. Mr. Whitfield has a bachelor’s degree from N.C. State University and has served on the NCPAFCU Board of Directors since 2005. A native of Robersonville, he grew up in Wendell. Outside of work, he is active in Rotary and enjoys sports. He and his wife Becky have two adult daughters, Anna Kate and Pitt, and one granddaughter, Ellie.
