United States Savings Bonds

United States Savings Bonds may be redeemed through NCPAFCU.

Redeem bonds

You may redeem paper Series EE, Series E, and Series I United States Savings Bonds at any branch location. The Credit Union is not authorized to redeem Series HH Bonds, but may be able to assist you in submitting your bonds to the Treasury for redemption. If you have electronic bonds, you may redeem them through logging into TreasuryDirect.

Purchase bonds

Series EE and Series I United States Savings Bonds may be purchased online directly from the US Treasury by going to the TreasuryDirect home page. This web page includes in-depth information about savings bonds and provides a link to a guided tour with information about opening a TreasuryDirect account, electronically purchasing bonds, and managing bonds in your account. Series E Bonds are no longer available for purchase, and paper savings bonds in any series are no longer sold at financial institutions.

Coinstar®3 kiosks allow members to deposit or exchange loose change for cash without the hassle of rolling coin.

Coin redemption options

  • Coin to Deposit (C2D): deposit funds via the kiosk into your primary NCPAFCU Checking or Cashpoints® Global Account for immediate availability using any NCPAFCU debit card.
  • Redeem your voucher with a teller to receive cash, deposit into an account, or make a payment on a loan or credit card.

Foreign currency

Planning to travel abroad? Members may order or exchange foreign currency at any branch.

Order foreign currency

Before you depart, visit your local branch to purchase foreign currency.5,6 Branches do not carry foreign currency and therefore it must be ordered as needed. We recommend ordering currency 1-2 weeks prior to your departure.7

We may not be able to provide or accept all currencies. To determine which currencies are available, send us a secure message through Press Pass, contact your local branch, or call Member Services Support at (888) 732-8562.6

Exchange rates and fees

Foreign currency may be exchanged at any branch. Exchanging currency at an airport or foreign ATM may be convenient but could be costly due to fees. NCPAFCU does not charge a processing fee to purchase or exchange foreign paper currency. However, exchange rates are determined by our third-party processor and do change daily.8

  1. Notary services are available. However, SECU employees are unable to witness documents. If a member brings their own witnesses for a document, a notary employed with SECU can notarize both the member’s signature and witnesses’ signatures.
  2. Signature guarantee is generally required to transfer securities, such as those transfers involving the sale or redemption of stocks or bonds. To obtain a signature guarantee, the owner(s) (or agent(s)) must provide documentation verifying the current value of the securities and a copy of the form for which they are requesting the signature guarantee. All owners (or required agents) must be present to sign in front of the employee who is guaranteeing the signature(s). As there may be additional documentation required in certain situations, we recommend contacting your local branch in advance.

  4. Coinstar kiosks are not available at all branch locations.
  5. Foreign currency purchase or exchange transactions cannot be completed over the phone or online via Press Pass. 
  6. Only paper currency can be ordered or exchanged for U.S. dollars. We do not order or exchange foreign coin. Minimum required denomination values for exchange vary by currency. Contact your local branch for more information.
  7. We do not give immediate credit when exchanging foreign currency into U.S. dollars.
